Now don't get me wrong that is a HUGE thing to celebrate and we definitely get plenty of adroable photos of your little one before, during, and after the smashing of the cake but there's even more celebrated during their first birthday cake smash sessions that you may not know about. It's not uncommon that when parents reach out to book their baby's cake smash session that they say they want to opt out of family photos because the session is about baby, and while they're not wrong it absolutely is booked to capture baby's big first birthday but it's more than that!

As a family, you have grown together in the last year. You may have changed, as a family you have cried, laughed, and grown into different people than you may have been two years ago. I always highly encourage families to take advantage of having family photos done during cake smash sessions. Why?

Because you are also capturing your growing family each time you have a session. Your baby is only this little once and photos are a perfect way to seize that memory and their tiny details for a lifetime. Plus, doing photos each year allows you to look back on how much they and you have grown between each session.

Lastly, if you don't want to do family photos for yourself, I highly recommend doing them for your little(s) for them to have the memories captured to look back on when they become an adult and reminence on their baby photos of not just them but their whole family with them, celebrating.
