Full Circle Moments: From Bump to One | A Cake Smash Session to Remember

There are moments as a photographer that go beyond posing, lighting, and settings—moments that pull at your heart and remind you why this work matters so much. Recently, I had the joy of photographing a cake smash session that beautifully brought a family’s journey full circle—and I’m honored to share a little behind the scenes from my point of view.

I first met this sweet family when they were expecting their very first baby. We captured their maternity session of their first child with so much excitement and love in the air. I still remember the glow in mom's eyes and the way they held onto each other with so much love for one another.

Fast forward a bit, and I was lucky enough to welcome them back into the studio when they introduced me to their second little love during their newborn session. There’s something incredibly special about documenting not just a baby, but the way a family expands and grows—how their hearts make room for more love than they thought possible.

And now, here we are. Their littlest is already ONE. For her cake smash session, we went with a soft, dreamy theme full of pastel butterflies and delicate florals—perfectly sweet, just like her. She absolutely lit up the studio with her expressions and curiosity. From the daintiest cake nibbles to wide-eyed wonder at the set around her, every click of my shutter felt like a celebration of her first year.

We also included timeless baby-only portraits before the cake made its appearance. I love offering these classic images—no props, no distractions, just pure, simple beauty. And because I’ve had the honor of photographing this family through so many stages, it felt only right to sneak in a few mom and baby portraits, too. Those cuddles, those quiet glances, that undeniable bond—it’s the kind of love you want to freeze in time.

Sessions like this are what I live for. Watching families grow, getting to be part of their milestones, and capturing the beauty of it all... it’s a privilege I’ll never take for granted.
